Hello, I am doing the MESG Spring show on sunday, and have entered traditional ridden mares (on the understanding its just walk and trot?) Does anyone have any idea of the format of these classes, I know the format of normal ones, but was just wondering if you do a fast trot etc,
Thankss :)

I doubt it would be just walk and trot unless it states so in the schedule!!!

If it's a novice class it will be walk, trot, canter, and if it's an open class you will be expected to walk, trot, canter and gallop!!!

Traditional will just mean the type of horse, so shown traditionally full mane tail feathers ect!!!

you will need tweed jacket for traditional classes :)

Good luck have fun!!!

If its an affiliated (to the FPS) class, & advertised as a traditional class, then yes, it should just be walk & trot (you may not possibly even change the rein, as traditional was/is judged just like an in-hand class, tho with a rider on board).
There are still some shows in the lake district which have these classes, tho these classes are becoming quite rare these days.
You will usually only be expected to walk & trot at any time, and the individual show 'should' be a walk away & walk back & the same in trot - possibly also a lengthened trot around the front to finish.
However, if you have a 'modern' judge, you might just have to do a 'normal' ride round & show, just as any other showing class.

This is usually primarily for the more traditional hill pony type, rather than a 'show' model, tho again it depends on the judge these days.

If in any doubt when called into line (and are lucky enough to be at the top) then ask the judge if there is anything they would like you to do, otherwise watch other competitors & note their movements.

Good luck :)

Ahh thanks! Yes its affiliated to the FPS, pony came straight off the moors to us as a 3 and 1/2 year old, so is probably more hill type, its her first fell pony show, so wanted to keep to just walk and trot :)
Thanks again! x
