Following PogoPumpkins thread about hogged manes - I think hogged manes look quite smart, and not just on hunter types.

It got me thinking about traditional turnout of types/ breeds and wondered how many of you go against the grain and have hogged warmbloods, TB’s with untrimmed feathers and natural manes, or natives all trimmed and pulled? Or is everyone a real stickler for turning out to type?

I personally wouldn't ever hog a mane even though I do think that it looks smart. I don't like hogging because I always hold a tuft of mane as I mount and if the horse has no mane I cannot do that! You may think that this is silly but I had a serious accident while mounting and holding that bit of mane stops me from having the collywobbles! When I was looking to buy, everything hogged was discounted from the search.

Nope. The world would have to end before I'd have my TB with a long mane!

Mainly because his mane is programmed to not grow any longer than 3.5" tbh. Honestly. It stops growing past that point. And his forelock? Well. Fluff!

My natives are true to type although the cob will need a serious pull as he has somehow lost about 6 inches off a patch of his mane right in the middle (which is now growing blonde!). Also he is still growing his tail back from when a haflinger youngster ate it!

I don't like seeing TBs with hogged manes, or any horses who have that long, lean type of neck.

I used to hog my shire x, because he had a naturally huge neck, and he looked very smart with it hogged, and it would have been horendous trying to keep his mane tidy otherwise, as it was so thick.

My TB is currently modelling a long mane and bushy tail! My appy's mane is short (never actually grows!) and she has a bushy tail too! They've had the summer off and I don't intend to trim them until spring now, and the only reason I'll trim is because they'll be competing! My mum hates me pulling manes though, she love's long manes on any type of horse!
