My new but used poo-picker from e-bay has just arrived thanks to a very sweet hubby who has driven 100's of miles to collect it!! It's a Trafalgar 1000 (large size) vacuum poo collector with a Honda 4 stroke engine, can be pulled with Quad. Has anyone else got one?

I have found clearing my land with 2 big horses really difficult as I am tottering towards a pension ;):D so was chuffed to get this pretty cheaply.

Just wanted to hear anyone else's views on them, tips etc. Thank you in anticipation :):)

Yep brilliant !:) I'm sure you will love it.

I have the smaller model mounted on a power barrow as I can't get the quad and trailer where I have to empty it and wanted to be able to wizz round quickly on my own.

My husband got me mine after seeing them at a show somewhere about 5 years ago and its still going strong. We have only needed one new hose in all that time. I love the way it leaves the grass squeaky clean.

I have one, its brilliant! One tip, empty it before u think u need to esp if you've been using it when everything is wet/rained on. It fills right up and is hard to empty. Oh and make sure the clips at the back are re-tightened, theres nothing worse than collecting lots and then unintentionally emptying it back out on the way to the muck heap!!! I ummed and arhh'd about the price of one (and of a hay gain steamer) but this and the steamer I have never regretted buying, they to me have proved their worth.

Thank you for your replies, so far it has been great but the clip tip :p is useful, can see it would be easy to empty inadvertently while trundling back. Hubby can't believe my enthusiasm for poo-picking!:D:D

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but how do you empty them onto a trailer that takes the much away, or do they have a tipping mechanism to empty onto a muck heap please?

you open up the back. if it's too heavy to tip then I use a fork and pull some out straight onto the muck heap. If It's not too heavy you open the back and there's a lever to then tip it straight on.
I wish it had a reverse mechanism that sucked the poo back out to where you wanted it!

Thanks, so you couldn't tip it straight onto a trailer then? It has to be a pile on the floor?

not unless you can drive whatever is towing it onto the trailer (unlikely :) )
the other option is to get a smaller one and a power barrow that you could take up a ramp onto a trailer. if you are forking muck up into the trailer then no it wont help there. does a farmer come and take the trailer away or do you take it to a muck heap further away? (at a yard I was on it went onto a trailer that was tipped 150 metres or so away daily) if that's the case then you could go direct to the main muck heap. If someone comes and takes the trailer away then you would have to tip onto the floor.
or get hold of Keith (disclaimer- there may be other Trafalgar paddock cleaner dealers ;) ) and let him know your set up.

Please be advised that there is a very strong link to grass sickness and atypical myopathy from paddocks that have been cleaned with pooh paddock cleaners. Any soil disturbance, i.e. digging in the field, drainage works, etc or soil disturbance from the sweeping brush action of a mechanical pooh picker. I can't get you the link from the grass sickness association as when I put 'grass sickness' into my search engine my firewall filter says the content I am looking at is deemed as suspicious. (I think it thinks I am looking for the weed type of grass lol)

But this link has been mentioned on more than one occassion. I would refuse the use of such a machine in my horses paddock as would many liveries.

I think this related to poo pickers that drag along the ground and scrape up the poo disturbing the ground. This particular one uses suction directly over each poo and disturbs the ground less than a fork would. In fact it doesn't disturb it at all ( and it doesn't always touch the ground)
If you look into this type you'll see it's not the one with the warnings x

Oh ok, no worries. Sounds like I could do with one! I've not pooh picked for three weeks now, and dreading it :(
