The road from our stables is closed for 6 weeks and we thought yay!!! lets go down and back up the fields (lovely rider but normally too much traffic - country lane lots of bends..) well saw two cars come and then hit the closed road and come back (slowly past both horses each time - sed thanks) then a raving lunatic in a Merc must have been doing 80+ past us on a bend slightly lost control and came veering towards my horse - look of horror on face and then swerved back onto road and past us - could not get number plate as too fast!! - my legs went to jelly and felt sick - horse not good in traffic but that fast I don't think he even saw - Who can I report sh*t driving to? The road is going to become a race track whilst closed as about 3 miles long and then people panic as have to make a 5 mile diversion to get to work etc? Any ideas welcome xx (wish I had got his number plate!!!!)

You report it to the police--not sure but BHS has some sort of accident form you can fill in to report things also (The more reported the more ammunition to get something done about it)

Unfortunately without a rgistered number there will be nothing the police or anyone else can do............if you can't find the driver you can't prosecute.

Maybe it's worth contacting the company responsible for the road closure (if it's due to works) and recommend earlier warning is posted to stop people making an unnecessary trip only to find the road is closed.

You poor love though, what a horrible experience.

Glad you are okay. We cycled the road today as there is access at the end for walkers, bikes and neds (if you can get them past the scary machines in a cage!!)

At least 10 cars passed us - and at least 6 of them re-passed us the other way - I did wave and pull faces at them!!!!!! Miss maturity here!

I understand from our friend that works for the police they had to cage the road off because motorists were just taking the barriers down and driving through the road works (great big hole all along the road) Call the council/waterworks and tell them what happened, maybe they could better signs up

Day 7 of the road block and at least 6 cars passed and returned via us (at a faster rate cus peed off!!) not our fault but hey ho!!!

lovely canter up the field tho so made up for it!!

You can report them to the police if you have a description of the car and/or driver even if you do not get a registration number but ask them for an incident number.

Maybe it was a local resident as they will still have access to the road......

Why not take the BHS road safety course as this will give you a number of new skills and always wear Hi-Fluro on your horse and yourself.
