Trailblazer Competitions

Anyone can enter. There are junior and senior sections. Not sure if they are just controlled by age or by horse / pony height though. You can check out the rules on :-

www.trailblazerschampionships.com

You don't have to join anything to jump a 1st round but if you qualify for the 2nd round you have to buy your ticket for £10 to compete.

I think i'm right in saying you can't jump a BSJA grade B or higher though

Also isnt it right that if your a member of the BSJA, you cant take part in the finals??? or is that just UK Riders thing?

No, you can compete if you're a BSJA member, just can't ride a Grade A or B horse

I had loads of hassle last year with my 14.2hh pony (i'm a senior rider) at Duckhurst - was unaware of the junior/senior/pony/horse thing, so asked advice at the secretaries office as to what class i ride him in. She told me i had to go in the horse class as i was too old for juniors, but commented how he would be disadvantaged as the distances would be too long for him. He then went on to win the class, yet someone put in a complaint (as they thought he looked smaller than 14.2hh - he is very high withered) so we couldnt qualify for 2nd rounds. Really dont know what to do with the pony this winter, as he is too sharp for all the children i know to ride, so will have to leave him at home

poor little pony loves going on outings - shame his rider's an oldie

would he measure 14.2hh? May be worth getting height certificate to wave infront of the a**** that insist on complaining! I went trailblazers on my cob a few times, and must have looked young cos always managed the pony classes, luckily wasnt bothered by qualifying, and was 18 at the time!

I can understand BSJA being divided up into adults/juniors, but not all adults are big enough to ride horses, and surely trailblazers should be a bit more accomodating seeing as it is un-affiliated?!! My mum is only 5ft, and wont get on anything bigger than 14.2hh as she feels dizzy (plus is a nervous rider).

As for the pony (owned by my mum), he seems to be shrinking each year as he gets older, and tbh i cant see her paying out for a life height certificate. Its a shame that people have to be so petty and take things so serious - this is something that rarely happens competing at affliated level on my horses - the hassle ALWAYS happens at un-affiliated level

David Broomes place runs classes for adults on ponies, they do there own version of TB called Championships of Great Britain, its easier to qualify as you only need to do one round of double clear, not two like TB there website is www.cricklands.com or .co.uk not sure which ending if your interested.

You don't need 2 DC's to qualify for TB 2nd Rounds...you need to be placed in the top 4

This is exactly what i thought!! There are many adults with ponies and i cant help but feel we are shunned by showjumping in general!!
