we're off to the trailblazer final on july 31st and had everything planned but because of the damn weather the dressage comp i was going to do on tuesday evening has been cancelled which is frustrating as that was going to be our last practice. There's some dressage on next sunday which we could go to as we haven't done a huge amount of dressage recently so she gets a bit tense in the arena and i wanted to get her out as much as poss so its not a big deal to her.
However, she's not the type of horse that needs lots of work and before we doing anything big or important i normally like to keep everything relaxed and just let her chill out. Before we went to the finals last year we just went on hacks for the days leading up to it as i find she fresher when it comes to the comp. As much as i d love one more dressage comp before hand i m thinking its a bit to close to the comp. I ve already got a lesson the day before we go which isn't ideal but instructor couldn't do any other day.
If i did the comp on the sunday which would take us 1h30 to get there and then had a dressage lesson on mon, travelled tues and then had 2 days of dressage comp on weds and thurs that just seems like a dressage over load!
she's a typical chestnut mare and when she gets bored and fed up she gets stuffy, arguementative and refuses to even try for me. she's going through this at the moment and i m planning to give her a few days off to unwind, as although she's not perfect she can physically do the work but mentally she quickly goes off the boil. she actually tends to go best when she hasn't been ridden all week lol
so what would you do? do as much as possible in the short amount of time left or just do as little as possible and let her chill out so that hopefully she's focused on the day?
