Took Axey to Golden Cross to do Prelim 18 today, first time I have been out in the lorry on my own!
He was a bit naughty in the warm up, napping away from one end of the school but once he settled he was lovely. Until I went into canter on the left rein, he kept putting in these massive bucks every time I put my leg on

When it was time to go into the indoor school to do my test he napped badly and wouldn't go in, even rearing and spinning round at one point. In the end someone had to lead me in

My actual test felt lovely, he was soft, round and forward in trot

the canter was a bit iffy as I didn't dare put my leg on incase he bucked me off!
I was really pleased with him as he wasn't at all spooky and actually let me ride him, which is a first!
Went back to get my sheet and was a bit disappointed with 60.8% as he's been loads worse than this and scored 62.9%
Had a lovely comment from the judge though, saying well done, lovely paces, he is going in the right direction and he just lacked confidence today

Came 7th overall, just missed out on 6th by 0.3%

So a very happy mummy today!

Hi

Welldone doing so well and all on your own, the thing is whenever a judge sees the horse rear it is unlikely to will score very highly regardless, don't worry though we have all been there and it sounds to me like you do an extremely good job

He will get used to things so don't worry, he just needs lots of training and competition experience. I think you should be really pleased!

Are you going out again soon?

Di

Sorry, didn't phrase that very well, the judge didn't see him rear, she was at the far end of the indoor school and we were round the side bit trying to go in. You have to walk through a very spooky 'tunnel' to get in

I have been to GX about 4 or 5 times now with him, and he's different every time! But today was the first time he's ever settled during a test, which I'm really pleased about
smile.gif
Not doing anymore dressage for a few weeks but going to the Arab Show at Ardingly on 22nd, then a flatwork clinic at GX on 24th it will do him the world of good to be worked in that school for an hour

The Trailblazers 2nd round is there on 6th May.

Well done!

That isn't a bad score at all.

Sounds like you did a good test especially as he was naughty going in, sounds like the judging was quite harsh too - when I did a prelim at GX I got 62.7% for a not very good test and was 11th out of about 20.
Are you going to the second rounds?

Well done you! Good luck at the second rounds!

I wanted to but I have a hunter trial that day.

I'm suprised I qualified tbh, but I don't think we'd stand much chance at the second rounds anyway!!! I must try and get Shadow to some more dressage soon though, she was starting to go ok-ish towards the end of last year!

I don't think I stand a chance either but I've paid my £12 now, so I'm going!
Bit annoyed that its on the same day as Badminton as I was supposed to be going with Vicky on the sunday

There's 2 prelims on that day, one you have to had qualified for and one you haven't. P 12 and P10 I think

My friend did the novice and to be honest i think the judge was very harsh with her marks and i dont know what she was looking for as one horse that did well was not even working into a true contact it just had its nose tucked in!

I see what you mean! Dutch used to occassionally stop dead and go up and I don't really know why, just that sometimes he would go really, really well and other times he acted like he had never really been on the bit in his life!! At least I learnt to take the rough with the smooth I guess!! lol

Good luck at the Arab show!

That's interesting, was it the same judge do you think?
He went so much nicer than he ever has done there, and I was quite convinced I was going to get much higher marks, even get placed. Was quite disappointed when I saw my sheet
frown.gif
Bearing in mind that he was truely dreadful and spooking all over the place last time and we got nearly 63%.
I did throw away a lot of marks on dodgy transitions though, but I'm still pleased with him
smile.gif

Thank you, if its not one problem its another, Axey is the most awkward horse I've ever come across! Now I can get him working nice and soft he's thought of something else to do that's naughty, so he's suddenly decided to nap and buck, both things he's never done before
smile.gif

Just have to work though it I guess!
I'm showing him in a pelham at the Arab Show so going to ride him in that for the next 10 days
