Do you have to plait? Haven't done any dressage that wasn't attached to an event in years

I quite often don't plait for unaff dressage. Call me lazy - i know!

you dont need to plait for any dressage - no rule about it. i've done affiliated for years unplaited.

As Star says, nothing in the rules to say you have to but I always do, just means getting out of bed earlier on competition days!

Yep always do! Turnout can often (wrongly) lead to a couple of extra %.....

never in my experience. we won plent enough without ever plaiting - we even came 4th at the BD winter champs without plaiting. every judge i know says plaiting doesn't influence them. you can be neat and tidy without plaiting and you can also look a mess even if you do plait.

Yeah I completely agree you can look just as smart unplaited. However I think overall impressions are important with Dressage, and as wrong as it is it can make a difference. your boy looks fab unplaited, but I think generally horses look correctly turned out for dressage plaited IMO.

We have a bit of an afro (horse not me!) so perhaps I would be better off plaiting to be on the safe side... might shortcut though and use bands.....

i always plait for dressage but it is really personal pref!!
