Interesting day, sat on a horse for 5mins to try a saddle this morning, and got asked to take it Sjing this afto! Well decided that actually it may be a learning curve, so said yes!

Anyway, tootled off, entered it for the 85cm as a warm up class, and the 1.05cm as a "proper" class!

Owners tacked him up for me (could get used to this!) and hopped on him to warm up. Have to say a really nice responsive ride, but owners as of yet not really got bitting sorted, and crikey could be strong! Anyway, walmed up nicely, tried some half pass for good measure, jumped a cross pole an upright and then 2 oxers and went in. Opened door for Indoor scchool, horse runs backwards. Excellent i hing, reversed to the other side of the car park, and then got him in nicely. Have to say was like a rocket out of a gun, but WOW what jump, and popped round nicely with all the fillers and related distances nicely, just having one pole down

Had a quick break, hopped back on and warmed up for the next class. Almost got bucked off when doing flying changes (

) but WOW, I really got hold of the canter and had a fab engaged canter, got him nice and deep into a decent oxer a few times, and he flew! Owner very pleased with hind leg action, so in we went. Got fab canter, went down to first fence, spot on, and he kicked it out

Put that behind us, cantered down to second fence, sat up to steady a tad, and almost ground to a halt! Kicked on and jumped second fence. This continued all the way round, I sat up and took a contact with my leg on to engage, and the horse tries to stop dead with his head in my face throwing himself around. I softened the hand and let him roll on a bit, and we had the pole with him running away with me

so had a messy round and had 5 down. Overall was very strong though, so we think having the first fence made him panic, and he is used to a man with big spurs and more than a happy mouth snaffle in his mouth!

Luckily, owner says nothing could have been done differently, so will be playing around with bitting, and meanwhile I get to play dressage ponies! Overall a very educational day

Thanks for reading, and sorry not the most exciting of reports...

Nah not to bad, was disappointed with second round, but owner was pleased and there was nothing I could have done, rode him exactly the same as in the warm up! Good fun to ride though..

Sounds exciting - will they let you jump him again? Man with big spurs sounds a really odd thing to do to a strong horse (not that I know anything to be honest)

Yep I'll be jumping him again, but we are doing more with him at home first. He was jumped on the continent previously, and we think is used to being jumped by someone alot stronger who keeps everything "together" alot more with very strong leg and hand. Unfortuntely I didnt quite have that strength in leg or hand to have him as "together" round a course. He pulls, but you then half halt him and he comes back at you with his head and any forward movement he had, which is where being "held" between leg and hand more strongly comes into it.

Thanks....yep DD was the polish horse, we are trying to find out what he was jumped in previously (he's not mine and is owned by a polish guy that brought him through a contact). He has one hell of a jump though, just got to work out how to keep it all together! Great fun though
