Hi All

Thinking of trying Trailblazers Dressage this season, so I dont look like a Numpty how does it work, what do you need to do, I have joined as a member but then what??? How do you qualify for the big comps? Where do you book for a class? We are in Derby and so I think the nearest venue will be Hargate?

Help appreciated

You'll need to call them up to book a time to do your test. I think to get the test you're supposed to order the booklet of them from trailblazers themselves, but I do know that Hargate has some spares lying around (I'm sitting in front of some desperately trying to learn it :D )
I'm pretty sure you tell them which test you want to do (out of the choice for that day) on the day. But I don't know if that's for all show grounds, but hargate works like that.

Oh and if you google Hargate you can download their show schedule so you know which tests are running which days

Usually they use BD tests & you pre-enter comps. You get your time a few days before the comp. If you score over 58% at a first round that qualifys you for 2nd rounds then its top so many (about 6 I think) that qualify for finals. Daughter started out trying dressage earlier in the year & we are heading off to championship finals on Tues! xx

Me too! But, it's me going, I don't have a daughter ;)

Best advise I can give you is get a good instructor who suits you. I have a gypsy cob who had only ever jumped and hunted before August last year, with the odd dressage test done as part of a ODE. After lessons with a fantastic instructor, Rebecca Parr, we have done 6 tests this year, all in the mid-60s to early 70s and the first round qualifier done a week after our last hunt, qualified first try and are off to Stoneleigh tomorrow. I could never have done it without her :D

tina's advice on how it works is spot on :)

good luck muffinino!!!

Ours is an Irish cob who had only jumped too! My girl did a few tests to start then we found an instructor to give her some pointers on where she was losing marks - really helped!!
Have a go & enjoy it xx

Good luck to your daughter. I saw your jumping report and what a lovely horse, fantastic colour, too. I had a bit of a chuckle at the jumping out of the ring ;) Maybe they're not jumping high enough, aye? :D

OP, tina is right, have a go. I would emphasis again the importance of a good instructor.
