I am planning to buy a fairly new second hand trailer (for 1-2 small horses) and would appreciate advice about the different makes. I thought either a Ivor Williams 505 or Bateson might be best but also wondered about some of the continental makes eg Cheval Libre. Does anyone have any experience or comments that might be of use. It needs to be reasonably lightweight.
Thanks

I bought a Cheval Liberte new, specifically as it was so lightweight.

It has had a reasonable amount of use over four years and still looks like new. Nice to handle and drive, very user friendly. Other people who have used it have commented how nice it is to drive.

The model I chose was 200 odd KG lighter than the IW.

Bateson Deauville, great trailer, tows well, light & airy, & retains its value well.

If for only small horses look at the richardson supreme rossette. I bought a 5 year old richardson grand and love it. The supreme is very lightweight too.

Think it boils down to personal preference! They all have pro's and con's!

I always wanted a Bateson but thought they were out of my reach price wise. I thought I might settle for a used Ifor, but then.... I fell in love with Cheval Liberty trailers (as pictured on the internet).

I went to a trailer dealer. He had a brand new Cheval Liberty, 2 second hand Ifors, a brand new Ifor and a second hand Bateson Ascot. As soon as I saw them all, my opinion totally changed! (womans prerogative)

I liked the outer look of the Cheval Liberty, but quality wise, I didn't rate it in comparison with the Ifor's or the Bateson.

Then I turned my attention to the Ifor's as I liked the thought of the full ali floors, and the guy put me off them! He said, that he has known, some horses stamp and dint them, he's knocked them back, they've been dinted, etc... thus a weakness made in the floor!

The next thing was the fact that the Ifors front ramp opens into the middle of the road.... the Bateson's ramp opens to the left, towards the side of the road... thinking of break downs and needing to unload... the more practical trailer was the Bateson for me!!

So, I took the plunge and paid that little bit more for my dream Bateson trailer.... AND I LOVE IT!!! Definitely worth every penny xxxx
