I’ve now got my car and trailer and passed my B & E test a couple of weeks ago. Final thing to get is a camera to go inside the trailer.

I’ve been having a look around and there are so many to choose from and I don’t have a clue!

There are loads of reversing cameras on eBay which seem reasonably priced (£50-60 and can be used inside the trailer) and I’ve also seen the Ryedale trailer camera which I think is around £130.

I don’t want to purchase one for £50 which turns out to be rubbish and then end up having to spend more on another. I don’t want anything that hooks up for my phone I’m after a seperate monitor.

Had anyone any recommendations and where you purchased from?

I got mine from trailer vision, it has a good monitor and good quality pictures/video

http://trailervision.co.uk/ - they connected mine to the side lights and it is really good asset to have in a horse box or trailer. They came here and installed it for me so I could carry on with my horses while it was being fitted, we discussed the position and they advised me too..

I had the Digi-Max2 System



Here is what they said


Thank you for your order this morning for the Digi-Max 2 2 camera system with installation.

I see that xxxxx from V Tech has been in touch with you re a possible date next week.



V Tech's quote for a 2 camera system is for £250 plus VAT.


Please can you let us know if you would still like to proceed.
 
I wouldn't bother with the reversing camera, personally. I had a friend who set it up successfully but i bought one and it has never worked (monitor issues) despite a couple of exchanges, it has been very frustrating and neither my Dad or I are numpties when installing this sort of thing.

People have used baby monitors successfully but I'm not sure how they power the camera?

This. I was towing a friends box and she had cameras and tho she was holding the monitor herself to keep watch I couldn't help but look a few times and I did find it distracting. Had to angle the monitor away from myself entirely.

If I was towing alone which I do frequently I wouldn't want cameras. You should be able to feel if anythings wrong - too many electronics can make you loose those skills. For example I doubt I could reverse to a trailer without the camera on the jeep now 😂
 
I have two cameras in my Ifor trailer. One is set the front watching the horses, the other inside the top back doors watching behind. The cameras are powered by the interior light, so I need to turn the car side of head lights on. The screen can be switched between the two cameras.

Eddie Stobarts horse lorry has that set up - seen it on TV - but the interior view cannot legally be selected when driving
 
We've got the Trailer Vision Digi-Max 2 with reversing and interior cameras. It works very well, especially when we have one nervous horse passenger in the 'box and one nervous horse owner in the passenger seat. I tend not to use the reversing camera except when there's a very definite obstacle to stop at, as the camera view is steeply downwards.

Ours was installed as an extra by Equi-Trek, so we paid, um, about £400 for the package. It was relatively expensive to do it that way, but at least everything arrived built-in in the trailer and didn't need faffing around with. :)

Sadly not always true - my friend was towing along the motorway about 50mph - when a car behind started to flash her, she ignored it and said a$$hole driver, then another vehicle hooted, she looked in rear view and her friend turned round but saw nothing, trailer holding the road fine. It wasn't till a driver pulled alongside and started waving at her that she realised something up and pulled onto hard shoulder. Then the horror hit her - her beloved Addie a beautiful 16.1 hh palomino had gone through the floor and not only the travel boots had worn away but his fur too and some skin. If it had not been for the travel boots it would have been worst!!!!


So I don't believe you can feel everything when towing especially on windy day.


OP Mine is a decent monitor and well installed
