Confession! I've had my ifor Williams 511 trailer for 4 years and I've never cleaned it. I sweep it out each time it's used but I've never cleaned the outside and it's a bit green on one side.

So the question is how often do you clean yours and do you have any tips for me? Has anyone taken one to a hand car wash and were they happy to do it for you? I'm not sure if yard owner will let me clean it at the yard and I've never seen anyone else cleaning there.

Thanks

Water, car shampoo and a sponge, plus a dandy brush for tough bits. Can't see why a hand car wash would say no, it's like a big van really?

I did this job yesterday on an ifor williams. I got marvellous stuff called demon foam from halfords, it has a gun which attatches to your hose and hey presto, spray the trailer with the foam, get a soft brush or big sponge, and wash. if you have stubborn dirt or green algae on it then use caravan cleaner which you can also get in halfords, or specialist supply shop.does great job.

I cleaned mine inside and out annually. Inside was always picked up and swept out after every use, and if horse had widdled I also swilled it out the next day. When we came to sell, one of the reasons we got a such good price was that it was immaculate (it was 10) - I'd cleaned all the grease from the padding, any slobber from front and sides and all the mossy stuff from the outside. We now have a lorry and I've done the general cleaning and I'm waiting for a sunny and preferably windy enough day to be able to take all the mats out and wash it out thoroughly.... park it on a slope so that any water drains out the back.

I do mine once a year on a hot day with a power washer, and softish broom and a bucket with some car shampoo in for the stubborn bits.
I take all the mats out completely and then go for it until its completely clean. The mats get washed separately and then go back in once they and the floor are completely dry.

You tend to get very wet, but that's half the fun.

Be careful power washing inside. I know someone who did it to their Bateson trailer on a regular basis and it rotted the walls.

power washing can also blow the sealer out of the joints, it did with mine and I had to have it resealed, I do mine with a soft brush and the hose pipe now.
But i do clean it out everytime i use it.

Warm water in a bucket, car shampoo, a sponge, a car wash brush & some elbow grease. This should clean the outside of your trailer well. When you've finished washing it just hose it off with a normal garden hose. You don't need a pressure wash. The secret is not to leave it until it's covered with grimed in green algai etc, wash it before this happens...............Oh & don't park it under trees as you'll get the green growing on it quicker & you'll probably get it covered with bird lime which can be a pig to get off.

If you look after your trailer you'll get top money for it when you decide to sell.

My trailer is white. :( Or to be more factually correct is it off white with a slightly greenish bloom. :( Methinks their is nothing for it but elbow grease.

We have taken ours to a hand car wash and they did it no problem. Only cost about £6 and saved a lot of hassle.

Thanks everyone.

I've got next week off work and this is on my list of jobs to do. It's not parked under a tree and it's on hard standing but one side doesn't much sun hence the greenish tinge in places.

Outside not too often but inside is swept, hosed and scrubbed every time its been used. Urine and dung are the worst for damaging metal and wood.

Friends were slack about cleaning theirs and the horse went through the floor.

I believe that the hand car wash near me will do it! but I think they will price it there an then! rather than have a set price! not sure if that includes the inside!

I jet washed my last year but couldn't quite reach the top properly, so could do with a better clean soon! but I don't use it that often!
