I have a 2015 ifor Williams. Bought brand new. When I picked it up the chap put an adapter on the electrics as my car must’ve had a 7pin and trailer was 13pin.

So, got a new car and and new towbar which is 13pin standard. Can anyone tell me if this chunky round part of the trailer electrics is standard or whether this is part of the adapter as it doesn’t fit in the electrics! 😵😵 and if it is how on earth do you get it off!

That is the correct end to plug into 13pin electrics . You have to fit it initially with the top round piece at 9 o clock and when the pins engage turn it clockwise until it pulls itself in. It is possible that the end may be out of sync with the pins if you have been doing a lot of fiddling and then it can be a problem in which case it will need realigning which may be best left to somebody who knows what they are doing! as it is tricky to tell you what to do if you dont know how the system works .
13 pin is great and a step forward but not easy for those used to the simplicity of 7 pin.

I will go out and try. Thank you! It’s as if it doesn’t actually fit in the hole to even twist but will try.

Should half the pins be inverted?

I have the same - as above, put in at say a quarter turn to the left to what it will end up being when fitted and twist to the right, might feel a bit odd at first but it does sort of click into place.

Okay managed to get it in and twisted slightly. The only thing that works is the actual lights, nothing else indicators, brake lights etc we’re confused as to why we don’t have that many pins!

Really appreciate your help Popdosh. Was having a mild heart attack questioning as to why we only had 8 pins 😂

I’m going to go to Halfords and see if I can get a thing to re- align it. On the video you posted it seems easy enough to do with a screwdriver but we don’t have the actual slats at the side to take the connecter off 😫

No I expect you have the other type with the large screw in piece . To be honest your picture of the plug head on looked about right. You need to sort of push and twist at the same time. The internal notch goes at the bottom to line up with the groove in the socket.as long as they are lined up it should work and the knob will be at nine o clock. You already have a tool of sorts your old adaptor. Try fitting them back together first !

Hurrah!

Wd40 done the trick. It now slots in at 9 o’clock and twists round to 12oclock. We have headlights, indicators, and brake lights! Reverse light doesn’t seem to work but can’t remember exactly which one that is. Hoping another dose of wd40 does the trick.

Can’t thank you enough popdosh, wouldn’t have got this far without you. Wouldn’t have been so frantic about it either, but horse has appointment at the vet school and need to move trailer over the weekend. Thank you again

Thats good . Your problem was the plug has been left connected to the 7 pin adapter so wont have been moved in a while so the lube will help. The reverse light wont have worked on the 7 pin before anyhow. You may need to check the bulb in the reverse light when coupled up .Dont forget it will only come on with the vehicle one so leave engine off put in reverse and leave the ignition fully on to check if its working and explore the problem.
If the reverse still doesnt work ,it has been known for dealers not to wire up 13 pin correctly so take it back to get it checked.
