I have my eye on a used Bateson trailer which seems to be a bit of a bargain. It has been standing unused for eighteen months and on inspection, I can see it requires new brakes but I can't be sure the floor is going to be sound. If I purchase, it will go straight for a service to make sure it is safe. Does anyone have any idea of the cost of replacing a wood floor?

Can't remember if Bateson are timber or alloy floor.

If alloy you should replace like with like, aalco will sell ali planking.

If timber, use 18mm phenolic play (buffalo board), varnish cut edges very well.

Rough cost £200-£400.

But remember wheel bearings tyres and side panels may all need doing.

A trailer main dealer may look after you or may charge a fortune. An good indy trailer guy would be far better...

If it's not too old you may find it's fitted with a plastic planking floor. If this is the case the floor will probably be sound.

Well worth getting it properly checked though obviously.

As has been said you may find that they have one of their rot proof floors in it. I had a Bateson years ago & it came with a king of plastic anti rot floor. You'll probably find that the one you're interested in has one fitted. Lift the matting & take a look at the floor.
