We have just bought a trailer was sold as having a metal floor but it's actually plastic coated wood, does anyone have any experience of these floors in a Richardson trailer?

Not in a trailer, but in a lorry, yes.

As with a lot of materials, if well maintained they are OK. To maintain they must be dry, as in mucked out and the trailer closed up so water does not seep under the rubber. Every few months I would lift the rubber and inspect to make sure there was no water damage, and make sure the wood is all hard. Look from under the trailer too.

A lot of horse boxes have this material, but TBH if I was sold it as an Ally floor and it was not I would not be pleased.

I believe Richardson replaced the wood with Ally some years back as some people had problems, I would call them and ask for a quote if you are worried, as I would imagine it is a common request. I would also say though that properly maintained and inspected they should be OK. The main dealer would be able to tell you the specific places where problems occur on your model though, so you know where to keep an eye on.

Good luck with your solicitor, it is always so disappointing when you make an expensive purchase, get all excited and find it is not as expected :-(

It is supposed to have a life time gaurentee but I have been told that Richardson no long make horse trailers???? It's just so disappointing, I wouldn't even contemplate selling something not as described so why do other people have to 😞

I can't tell you about Richardson Trailers however I had a Bateson Deauville & that had a 'plastic' floor as standard. I had no issues with it at all.

Their advertising literature says "The floor is manufactured with a 22cm wide 2mm galvanised steel section down both sides where maximum strength and rot resistance is required. The centre section is a rot proof plastic floor panel that is strong, solid and silent and offers total security."

Providing the floor was profesionally fitted I would far perfer that to an aluminium floor. :)
