After having an Ifor with an aluminium floor and selling it because my boy was terrified just stood in it I have recently bought a 2 yr old Richardson with a wooden floor. My boy stood in it calmly and even went for a short trip without any problems. Read in this weeks H&H that any vehicle with a single skinned wooden floor shouldnt be used and a double floor should be laid. Im worrying a little now. The floor in my trailer is as new, can I lay MDF over the top of it? Dont know what to do now

. Anyone else got a trailer with a single wooden floor. The Richardson trailers floor is planks and not like the old Ifor wooden floor? Any advice or ideas please

If it's a single floor i would 100% put another layer on, i have seen first hand what can happen to the horses when they have put their foot though it. I would not use MDF it will just root, you need to use marine ply.

i have just had mine repaired - got it back yesterday they took my old floor out and alid a single skinned marine ply floor - and told me that it would hold 2horses with no problem - i am rather concerned now after reading your post.

i have had 4 or5 2nd hand trailers over the years and they have all had double floors.
would not trust a single floor.

PLEASE get it checked out by a pro or at least seak their advice- years ago we had a VERY serious accident involving a horsebox floor- it gave way and broke all four of one hunters legs- REALLY not worth the risk.

and rosiie, that must have been scary!!!!!!!!!

EVERYONE, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR BOX/TRAILER FLOOR IS SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wouldnt put a shetland on a single floor horses have a lovely tendancy to jump around and find a way of injuring themselves and a single floor if it rots you have no back up. double floor always.
my ifor has aluminium floor and my lorry has a triple floor (2 layers of hardwood and a layer of marine ply)

Thanks for your replies. I checked the floor before we bought it and was concerned that one plank had a split in it so it went to the dealership to be replaced before we parted with any money. Im sure they thought I was a wally as she rang the dealership whilst I was there and he said it was totally fine (it had just had a service) but I insisted it was replaced. I will ring the dealership and ask about a second floor being put in it.
Has anyone done this themselves?
