I'm currently on the hunt for my very first trailer :D & could do with a little help please.

We have a car capable of towing 2t, so am on the hunt for a lightweight trailer to allow for the maximum amount of horse/equipment capacity possible.

At the moment I'm looking at the Bateson Deauville trailer which has an unladen weight of 860kg & a capacity of 1440kg, however the trailer will need downgrading/plaiting to suit the car (not a problem). This still gives me a towing capacity of 1140kg which is enough.

So my question is... are there any other trailers out there that are a similar unladen weight to the Bateson Deauville? Or even lighter?

Thank you!! :)

IFOR williams trailers are brill. they hold their value, alluminium floor so cannot rot, good to tow. either the 505 or 510 ( for larger horses)

we just bought i second hand ten year old one and it looks brand new!

An ifor would be too heavy for you to tow with a car unless it was the single one.

The Bateson Deauville trailers are very good as I have previously owned one but to be honest I would only ever consider towing a trailer with a horse in with a 4 x 4 as on one occasion A friend used her mercedes Estate to tow my trailer with my horse in, in an emergeny trip to the vet as my car was off the road. I would never do it again the trailer kept shunting the car and it was a very scary journey. You need a car that is heavy as well as having a decent engine!

Nice to hear good things about the bateson trailers! I have used one before & like it, but wasn't sure if there were any other trailers available with a similar unladen weight.

Should have probably clarified the towing vehicle is a Subaru Forester (new model) so it is a 4x4 & we have towed an Ifor trailer & a Rice Richardson with a 17.2hh in it before & it was more than capable. The towing capability is what I was told by my dad, but as it is a company car not sure if this has any implication on the amount we are allowed to tow. I am purely after a lightweight trailer to maximise my towing capacity with this car, however we may not always have it.

, but as it is a company car not sure if this has any implication on the amount we are allowed to tow.

Are you sure you're allowed to tow with your company car? A friend of mine works for an insurance company and when she asked if she could have a tow bar fitted, they refused and she was not alowed to use the car to tow. Best to get it checked out before you spend the money on a trailer.

Have you checked the weight of the Cheval Liberte? I think they are quite lightweight.

Definately allowed to tow with it, they fitted the tow bar for us! Its something we always ask for when we pick the car as we have borrowed/hired trailers up until now :)

Will go have a look at the Cheval ones now, Thank you!
