Reading post about Blue and tickled bum prompted this post remembering. Travelling with trailer pulled up at major lights all routes had 2 lanes all directions. Someone papping horn constantly. We just sat there thinking for god sake stop that honking as seemed very close. OH looks in mirror to see my 17.1hh with his head stuck out of Jockey door (right hand side) looking at passenger who had window down and Will trying to stick his head in her window as she was eating a cob she was leaning towards driver as frightened of horses. Had to get out and shut door. Clever horse had played with lock till it had opened. He used to open his stable door which didn't have a kick bolt on it. The day I had him put him in stable went to get some hay out the back, came back to find him visiting the other horses down the isle (all stables indoors with a passage) put him back 3 times stood behind wall and watched him, he was so clever kept flicking lock with top lip held in teeth and slid back bolt. From then on had to put clicker on bolt ring. Has anyone else's horse been able to escape from stable and undo Jockey doors? Had to laugh he was so calm. Woman's face was a picture lol

Had to put velcro on outside of box door after that as a precaution.

I had a horrible day when one of the horses (for no good reason, he was out with company, it was a nice day, etc) jumped the post and rail into the neighbour's land and went for a canter. Only the neighbour's was a golf club and he churned up everything! So the next day I decided to leave them in when I went to work for peace of mind. I got back, parked the car and noticed the stable door was completely open - this time he had let himself out and had spent the day eating grass in the garden (OH who works from home had failed to notice!).

I've had the jockey door open once while on the move..... I don't know how my horse managed it & don't really care, but I always have it locked now & the problem has never arisen again.

Ours was locked. But he managed to open it, we always locked it. Will was pts last year and we have had a new lock put on. Really miss him though. Haven't been able to replace him. I'd had him 10 years.

My friends horse can open top bolts, bottom bolts, lead rein clips that go onto bolts, other horses stable doors, only the horses he likes though!, and then opens the feed room door and gets into the feed bins. Should have an asbo slapped on him bad boy.

When we picked the trailer up the jockey door opened on the way home and narrowly missed a cyclist

We installed two locks on it so it stays firmly shut now!!

We have post and rail fencing around the muck heap with 2 of the rails resting on hooks to get in and out to it. But every day without fail, my gelding and cheeky little pony alway break into it. I have tied the poles with string really tight but they still break in...nothing can keep them out. They are obsessed with getting in there, but it baffles to to why as it's just a huge pile of crap, with a couple of square feet of grazing...gross! I think it's the naughty school boy effect on them, they know they shouldn't be going in there so it makes it more fun

there was a bit on here a while ago about a horse in a stable without the kickbolt done up.he kicked the door and his foot pushed the bottom of the door out and was caught,he skinned his leg severly.

since i read that i am very particular about the kickbolt even if i am in and out even for a second.

I used to ride a little mare years ago who could undo bolts, knots and gate catches. Handy on a hack but a problem when she started leading feed room raids! When we put a padlock on the field gate she started jumping out just for fun....
