Sorry, bit long but please read! =D

The transport search is back to square one again. Seen one or two trailers a while ago, but then (my OH doesn't like buying second hand stuff, incase something is terribly wrong he can't fix!) thought maybe buy a new Ifor Williams, but that all got very expensive. I can't drive, so really it has to be what OHs are willing to cart around! M wants a very small 2 horse horsebox/van- you've seen them? However D wants a trailer so he doesn't have to Tax, MOT etc. Yet M won't tow as A) Ds car is automatic so she refuses to drive it and B) She doesn't want to tow!

Currently we're using a friend's ifor trailer, and another friends ancient two horse van. I know we really need to sort these small issues out regarding the trailer vs. box thing, but wanted to know if anyone:

Knows if these nice small boxes (renault master springs to mind?) hold their value?

You can get them in reasonable condition second hand?

Has any views that may help!?

Any help is VERY much appreciated, belive me! Thanks SO much! xx

I love my little 3.5t box

They hold their value well, as far as I am aware.
Very easy to drive etc, so perfect really

Nope.
Mine was second hand from a dealer but it was in fab condition. Starts every time, horse area clean and airy, saddle racks etc all there.
I paid 6k for it and it was well worth the money.

Trailer. One less vehicle to insure, and if the towcar breaks down, you can easily get the trailer moved. I wouldn't be too suspicious of secondhand trailers, especially if you buy one from a reputable dealer.

Trailer for same reasons as above and because with the 3.5 tonners, depending on horse sizes, you may well struggle to carry two plus passengers and equipment and stay within its payload.

I am having a similar quandry, we currently have a 3 year old Ifor Williams trailer but our mare doesn't travel well in it even with the partition removed.
We are looking at the 3.5t boxes or maybe an equitrek trailer which they travel in facing the rear. The advantage of the trailer as someone already pointed out is it isn't another vehicle to have to tax etc. From what I have seen in my searching both seem to hold their value very well.
We will be selling the ifor and have owned it from brand new so know there is nothing wrong with it! There are honest people out there!!
