Can any suggest to me a larger trailer than the Bateson 2013?

My horse is a 17hh Warmblood and normally travels on a lorry however toying with getting a trailer.

However the only time he went in one (Bateson) he rubbed his bottom raw and had a sore dock for a few days where he wedged him self up against the back bar (journey time 2 hours there and 2 hours back). I noticed it once we had arrived and it worsened on way back (was wearing tail guard and rug with tail flap)

Im happy to pad the rear up but its more of a pressure problem.

Alternatively thinking of removing the partition and back bar...? Is this really safe?

Does any one travel a single horse without the partition as thinking he could then travel diagonally if he chose for more room?

Cheers!

One of the Equitrek L models would be big enough and also you might find he does not sit on his bum so much travelling the other way round.
I would never take the back bar off as the clips that hold the back ramp up are not designed to hold a horse too. Especially if he leans hard when travelling the ramp may drop down and deposit him on the road, not something you want to happen I am sure. Why not try taking out the partition and getting full width breast and breach bars? My big horse travelled much better like this and always put himself on a diagonal, which your boy may prefer if he liked a lorry (this was in my Bateson Deauville). You may find that he is finding the ride a bit unstable. I found that because the Bateson is quite light it gave a bit of an unstable ride. I have had an Equitrek and Rice Beaufort Double since and both have been much better in terms or ride comfort (well my horse seems to thing so).
Richardson Supreme Grande are big trailers, as is the Rice Beaufort 60.

Hi Sprig

Thanks so much for that advise. Didn't actually consider the extra load on the ramp..

Will have a think...

Love the Equitrek's but they are so expensive!!

Taking the partition out will give him more room as he will in all likelihood arrange himself diagonally (its what my mare does). They seem to like it much better. So my thinking would be to echo Sprig and get a full width breast and breach bar and see what happens!

I have a Wessex Olympian, it's designed for 17.2's, the tail end bar can be set froward from the ramp by quite a bit so horse cannot rub it's bottom on it at all. Mine's a triple trailer and though it's designed for three weight wise you wouldn't be able to load three full size horses but its light and airy inside with plenty of room with two on board for storage at the front.

We've got big horses (nothing under 17.1) and have a Rice Beaufort B60 -7'6 headroom and extra wide.

We also have an ordinary Beaufort with extra headroom (also 7'6 - standard is 7'). The 18hh irish draught travels in this one herringbone -we take the partition out and have full length breast/breech bars.

Both trailers tow really well and are very stable on the road

My 17.3 travels very comfortably in my if510 , never rubs his tail which he does in a lorry. Travels with or without the partitions, I prefer without though and full length breach bar as then even more room.

I travel all my horses in ifor 510 with no partition, the two bigger ones stand on the diagonal, took my 18.1hh ID to northumberland which took 7.5 hours and he came off cool as a cucumber no tail rubbing or sitting on the ramp

I just bought a 510 for my large 16.3hh so good to read the above comments.

I did a fair bit of research and the Richardson Supreme Ultra trailers appear to have the largest dimensions internally (only by a few inches), but of course Richardson don't exist anymore so it's a bit of a risk buying one.
