Went to see a trailer today

I really really like it... It's a 7yr old Ifor 510, nothing flashy, but what i want.

Ceiling, ramps, electrics, wheels, axels (axles?) walls and panelling etc are all fine. However, all though the man insisted (well he would
smirk.gif
) that it's ok, it has the original wooden floor, which i think needs replacing. As it's sound in every other way, my dad's decided we should buy it then have the floor replaced.
So, any ideas how much it would cost to have a wooden floor replaced with a metal one in a 7yo 510? Estimates please

Our IW 510 is 6yrs old (we've owned since new) and the floor really is as sound as the day we brought it home (regularly checked!) so it may be worth checking whether it needs doing before spending the cash

Oh really? Well I think my dad wants to have it done anyway, (i'm not objecting too much, it's his money

) but that will probably mean we can reduce the urgency of having a new one a bit. How can we reliably check the floor is ok, bearing in mind we are first time trailer owners? Thanks

If you go to a caravan specailist they fit new floors much cheaper. Most of them will service horse boxes and do maintance jobs . eg. your floor.

Phone a local Ifor dealer for a quote.

I had an old 505 which I got a new metal floor put into about 5 or 6 years ago, i think it was about £300 to get it done.

It involves pulling up all the matting (which is a pig!!) and checking all the edges and the points where the partition posts go into the floor. Check for damp, rot, uneven surfaces etc.

i used to tow an ifor trailer and the floor went very suddenly - luckily I was cleaning the trailer when it happened so no serious accident but it was an old wooden floor. Ifor Williams wanted approx 1200 to put in an aluminium floor so we bought a lorry instead!! Not much help I guess but do pull up those mats regularly if you stay with the wooden floor (and yes the ifor Williams chap did say they had been putting in ali floors since 2000)

I was going to mention it sounds like it is older than 7 years too, our last 2 had the date stamped on the tow bar bit.
The one before this one must have been about 1998 from memory and that had an aluminium floor.

Hi I bought my IW 510 Jan 2000 and it has a metal floor this trailer is older than 6yrs but it still could be a good trailer. Why dont you get the ID number of the trailer stamped into the metal near the tow hitch and call IW they will give you the year it was made also how much to replace the floor.

I would get the serial number from the drawbar & phone IW. they'll immediately tell you how old it is.

Our is a 1997 model and it was just after that they started fitting aluminium floors as standard. We just replaced the wooden floor in ours and i'm sure we priced the aluminium one at £270ish +vat, thats for parts only, but that was a 505.

I think it is likely they still had some old stock as we definitely bought our wooden floor 6yrs ago...

I have jusy had floor replaced in 510, £520 plus VAT. Could have got it done for £450 plus VAT if I'd travelled a bit further - both are registered Ifor dealers.
