I have just started looking for a trailer and just wondered what type of trailer is recommended . Don't have a huge budget . I have noticed that rice trailers are cheaper than ifor Williams does anyone know any reasons for this? Thanks in advance.

I think Rice are heavier than Ifor Williams so need bigger towing vehicle. I have an ancient Rice that still tows like a dream behind a Discovery.

Thanks for your reply I will be towing with an XC90 (Volvo) so would prob be ok with a heavier trailer.

Doesn't necessarily mean it has a terrific towing capacity, check the weight of your intended vehicle and do your calculations before you commit yourself to buying anything! And also make sure you are legally allowed to drive it!

I have had both a walk in/reverse out trailer & a walk through trailer, I far preferred the walk through. It was a Bateson Deauville which is a lovely trailer but will probably not be in your budget from what you have said.

Whatever trailer you go & look at examine it fot rotten floor/ramp. Check tow hitch works, brakes work & electrics are ok. Electrics can be sorted easily cheaply with a trailer board rather than having the trailer rewired.

Pick a make that it is still easy to get parks for, Rice, Richardson, Ifors etc. You may struggle for parks on some of the older & no lonmger in existance companies.

You don't have to spend a fortune to get a good trailer. If you are willing to clean it up & give it a coat of paint (I used car paint & a roller on an old trailer) they come up really nice & you can get these tidy me up jobs for a few hundred pounds.

Your tow car Volvo XC90 has a tow weight of up to 2250kg so most trailers should be ok with it.
