Trailer Security

i have just purchased a lovely second hand Bateson trailer, it came with a wheel clamp and bulldog hitchlock - is there anything else i can do to deter theives? trailer is insured with NFU.
i am moving to a new yard next weekend which is quite out of the way and secure but i was wondering what other options there are?

We have a lock on the wheels both sides and a lock that covered the balllock on the front.

I just find the more locks the better as a thief will go for the trailer that is the easiest to take.

You can get a Data tag kit with 2 microchips to hide in it and lots of data dots to paint on every panel. My Ifor also has a removable electric cable so they would have no lights!!

I had my trailer stolen a couple of months ago and for my new trailer I have got a bulldog wheel lock and hitch lock, it is also data tagged and insured with NFU. I know some people chain them to the ground and things but I haven't got that option where I keep mine.

Someone told me to make sure that I put the wheel lock on a back wheel - if you put it on a fron, the trailer can be tipped back and taken on the back wheel, but you can't do that if the back wheel is locked - if that makes sense!

You could concrete an anchor in and chain it to that, if ok with your yard owner of course!

In this county the police mark trailers in big yellow letters with a security code which is held on a database. They also stamp your postcode into the metal in a couple of places (back frame and hitch). They then recommend that using a permanent marker pen you go round and write your postcode in about 20 different places, both visible and hidden, all over your trailer. The idea is that a potential thief will see these and know that they are unlikely to find and remove all the marks and that you will know where you put them and therefore be able to identify the trailer if it's found.

Since the marking scheme started, the police tell me only one marked trailer has been stolen, and that was recovered almost immediately

I would also recommend climbing on the roof and painting your postcode on it in large letters. Oh, and graphics (buy them on ebay) to stick all over it as well. Anything that slows them down (they won't want to peel graphics off if they are planning a quick getaway, and the graphics often leave shadows where they've been anyway).
