Hi all,

Having had our trailer stolen at the weekend we're tentatively on the lookout for another but slightly concerned that one will go missing aswell!

What's the best security measures for a trailer?

Sadly we don't have the option of storing it inside but it had both a bulldog wheel clamp as well as a hitch lock - they smashed both off!

Im a bit of a security freak when it comes to trailers. 1st I'd park it somewhere that thieves will not want to go to to nick it, by a house. Im guessing if they have removed both your locks then it was parked somewhere out of sight and sound of people? You can get trackers, there's probably loads on the market but I know my local ifor williams stocks them. Make sure wheel clamp is on the back wheel not a front wheel. Large postcode stickers for the roof so it can be identified from the air and flyovers as yours. You can get a bollard which you concrete into the ground and it has a towball on the end for locking your trailer to. There is also a T bollard which i like the look of too, I think its made by bulldog. I keep my spare wheel in the garage so thieves have less options when it comes to removing wheels to get the wheel clamps off. You can get padlocks that set off an alarm when tampered with, you can also get ones that text you but i think they are really expensive.
the one security item which is brilliant in theory but the company dont seem to make them any more is a valve that you fit on your tyre valves and it cant be removed without a special tool. If thief man drives your trailer away with these valves the tyres deflate over x amount of feet.

The thieves are very likely to come back to see what you have replaced your trailer with so I really would try to find another spot. In terms of future presentation, you could try putting your postcode on the roof for identification. Park it awkwardly or blocked in (which is what I do) as well.
