Trailer test - 1:1 with instructor or not...?? Intense training or not?

Hi,
With Spring around the corner I have decided it makes a lot of sense to do my towing test.
I've spoke to someone about doing it, got the cost (ouch) for training and test and was told the training would be 2:1... so someone else learning would be in the 4x4 (as well as the instructor) while I was driving and vice versa. Is this the norm? I imagine it'd make me feel even more self-conscious.

Also - I've heard conflicting opinions re. the training. Some say intense training is best so it's all fresh in the mind for the test. Others say lessons spread out is better as that way, I'd have plenty of time to practise in between lessons. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

i would also advise maybe just booking up a lesson or two with a normal instructor first as the majority of failures are just down to poor driving standards from bad habits etc rather than issues with actual towing the trailer if that makes sense.

Just done mine and would advise intensive. You get more done and it keeps it fresh in your mind. I had 4 days training. I could not imagine anything worse than doing 2:1.

Thanks for the replies. I really don't think it would help me to have that extra person in the car. I'll phone around some other places, it's a lot of money for training so I'd like to get it right.

That's an excellent idea, I don't think I would pass a driving test now with all my bad habits, patly caused by driving vehicles with dodgy clutches and and gear boxes that are on their last legs!
