Does anyone know if you are allowed to use in car reversing aids during your trailer test.

We currently have a Freelander 2 to tow an ifor 505 but we have to change cars so are going for a new Discovery.

The Discovery if fitted with reversing cameras an a screen that shows you the reversing line etc.

Wanted to know if I would be allowed to use such a gadget on my test as if I can i will wait until we have switched cars before i take my test.

Yes!!!

I was used to just a hitching mirror, but the car I took my test in had a camera above it's tow ball and when you put it in reverse the rear view mirror turned into the screen for it.

The company also gave me this magnetic stick that I put on the tow ball. When I reversed the moment it knocked off I knew it was in position! They also put red tape on the hitch to help me line up with the red handle on the stick.

They ALSO put tape on the mud guards on the trailer and when the tape lined up with the coloured box the back of your trailer has to be in I knew to stop!!

So yes, there are definitly a LOT of cheats you are allowed to do!! ha ha ha!

Yes, reversing detectors and cameras can be used on the car and the trailer

REVERSING Screens must not be active when driving forwards on public roads

The safest set up is to have screens/cameras which are activated when reverse gear is selected - easy to do with the reversing light electrics
