Anyone done their test?

I have a disc and trailer but cant tow really want a 3.5T lorry but finances might just make me take the test as it might be cheeper. Was it easy or a nightmare I can be a bit nervous driving the landy so thats why I prefered the lorry idea

thoughts please?

How are you driving the Dicso without the trailer? If that is a problem, then a lorry would be even worse. IMHO the Disco is the easiest 4x4 to drive as the visibility and driving position are so good, although the steering tends to have a lot of play. The answer is lots of practice. Get someone who is allowed to tow (ie an old person!) to sit with you and just do lots of driving. Practise parking in supermarket car parks when the shop is shut, and have a couple of lessons to get some pointers. There are some good guide books about towing and the trailer test, try Amazon.

I drive the disco but i dont like the play have had it swaying a few times - hit the breaks too much. Hubby is a transport manager and said I am a nightmare in disco also dont tends to go fast i.e. above 50. Have driven 3.5t and found it loads easier

Hubby always drives but I have to pick shows and getting fed up of that so thought at 25 its about time i learn.

Why not go and have an assesment at a driving centre? Then you will know - how many sessions it'll take you and the cost.

hummm!! Well I have taken it twice and failed twice you have to reverse into a bay and get it between to lines then you have to hook and unhook and check the trailer is attached properly by lowering the jockey wheel and raising the car and trailer off the ground. Good luck I am going to retake it this year!! It is hard and I would advise you take lessons well I need to!!
good luck!!

Will have to find somewhere, will have a look

How much is the test?

£89 on a week day

I too recommend lessons. Driving rules with a trailer are different that without- ie lane choice etc
I failed three times before I passed. But plenty pass first time

Ship, I can recommend the guy who I did my training with. It was quite expensive but a LOT less expensive than buying a lorry

.
It really isn't difficult, as long as you are comfortable doing the things required. You could use your disco if you wanted in your training and that would perhaps give you confidence.

I've just done mine, passed first time but including lessons, test etc its cost me £650. I could not have done it without lessons!!

i passed my trailer test first time. I had 1 assessment session and 2 lessons before the test. The guy who trained me was excellent - and luckily did it in his own time so i had the lessons at weekends.

Yep i recommend you have lessons. I had lessons at hgv place where the test was, so practiced the reversing where the test was. I did the test shortly after it came out, so may have changed. but you 1st have to reverse and put the trailer in a box, you have to be spot on! then went out for drive round the city - and the motorway. then came back and un hitched and hitched. mine came well under £500 but was a while ago.

Long run if finances tight - your better doing the trailer test. least then you have only one vehicle to maintain!

You wo'nt pass the test without lessons, I know a DSA grade 6 instructor who only charges £150 a day and gets people through in 2 or 3 days. Pm me
