My much loved tow car has 1 year left on its warranty, its s 6 year old Kia Sportage and has successfully towed by Cheval mare and foal trailer with my pony it many many miles. Its my first ever car from new and only one that hasnt blown up on me so Im nervous of changing it. My options are:

Keep it on the road for the next few years to see what hybrid options evolve, get part husband scraped on a bollard re sprayed and keep using my trailer . Both are 6 years old and both paid for in full so free towing in efect other than fuel and insurance
New hybrid to two box but they are all 1.6 cc so not great and we have big hills round here
Buy a horse box and small car but thats more debt, box will stand around a lot esp if a bad winter and Im hoping to go part time in a few years on the plus side would be able to box up more for weekend hacks but solo as pony wont travel with partitions so cannot bring a mate along.

Yes, I'd keep what you've got. I have a petrol car and am also waiting for new hybrids to come through so that I get better range and size options.

If what you've got works for you at the moment then I wouldn't change it. Also horseboxes hate being sat around and that's when you get the big mechanics bills.

From your options I personally think it's a no brainer to keep your current car and trailer.

If you're worried about not having a warranty on your car, you could always ask for a quote from KIA for extending the warranty. Alternatively there are warranty companies, but be very careful who you go with as I believe several have a bad reputation. Having said that, my OH paid quite a lot of money for something like 5 years warranty (from an independent warranty provider) when he bought a relatively new 4WD and I have to say I was quite sceptical, but give them their due, they paid out on every claim without question and my OH received his initial warranty cost back several times.

Anyway, back to initial question, I had both a 3.5t horse box (new container on used chassis) followed by an IWT trailer and 4WD. Perhaps I was just unlucky but although lovely to use, the 3.5t was a total money pit, hugely expensive to keep on the road, especially once I stopped using it at least once a week.

My box 7.5 tons sits around for the last year due to my knee issue and surgery, i wont get rid, as would rather a box over a trailer anyday..

I would not be able to store a 7.5 anywhere - hence my query was about smaller van conversions. I hope your knee has recovered well.
