I have a Bayhill Sportsman Horse trailer, not to sure of its weight and was just wondering if anyone knows what will be save to pull it. We have a new forest pony which weighs between 300 and 400 kg. We are looking at a Rav4 and a freelander. Would these be any good?

Thanks

I can tell you that a freelander has towing capacity of two tonne. Each vehicle will have a max towing weight. You then calculate 85% of it's max towing weight which gives you the safest towing weight.

I have no idea what weight a RAV4 will tow, but I'm guessing it's less as I know Landrover have some of the heigher end towing weights.

A disovery and defender has a max towing weight of 3 tonne.

Hope this helps a bit.

I have a Bahill Sportsman and without the partition (I use a single breast bar) it weighs 650 kilo's. I know this because I took it to a weighbridge. I pull my horse in this with a car (within the legal limit) so you'll be fine with a Freelander. Don't know anything about the Rav4.
