Hi all,
not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes........ just finished refurbishing my trailer and now want to paint the outside. does anyone have and good tips?

thanks

I refurbished a trailer a few years ago & painted the outside. I rubbed down any loose & flaking paint & infact I took all the paint off the roof as it was in a bad state. The trailer had an aluminium roof so I used 'etch primer', that's the right primer for aluminium, first. I bought proper car paint in blue & grey (I did top & bottom different colours & the frame in grey. I applied the paint with a gloss roller & touched in with a brush. Where the two colours joined I stuck on a black coachline. The mudguards I painted black.

I originally bought the trailer for £500, it was a horrible dull & flaking brown...yuk. After refurbishing & painting I was very pleased with it. I used it for about 4 years & eventually sold it on Horsemart for £800 to the first to view.

Top tip for this time of year is wait till you have a warm day before you paint. If you apply paint in the cold it takes forever to dry & you will get a bloom on the paint & not the shine that you want.

wow great advice thanks. thats just what i wanted to know. will wait for the summer then and fingers crossed ill end up witha fab looking trailer

moisture is not your freind as a basic rule. this time of year you need a heated room to dry the air out to get a decent finish.

secondly if you are planning on using rattle cans then go to a proper paint place and not halford as the paint can will be better quality as they produce a spray in a line pattern and not a dot making even coats easier.

thirdly make sure you leave the cans on a radiator for 20 mins or so to get them warm as it makes the pressure in the can higher making the paint go further and last longer
