I had an EquiTrek Trail Treka. 2235mm internal headroom for a 16.3hh Warmblood that has a head carriage of a giraffe.

I’ve sold it as he won’t go in it after travelling fine on about 4-5 occasions. He’s fine going in a rear loader - we just need to practise as for whatever hatred he took out with the EquiTrek, he just needs some confidence.

If I buy a trailer with adequate headroom for a 17hh, do they just learn not to stick their giraffe heads up? He has a poll guard which I bought when he suddenly stopped loading, throwing his head up and smacking in on the entry lip which probably didn’t help the EquiTreks already losing battle with him. I had wanted a wagon but that’s a no-go as well a side loader. Long boring story.

I’d like a trailer with a tack locker in it so I’m limited to choice as I cannot have my tack cluttering the car. I had a Bateson Ascot with my old (16hh) horse and loved it and would quite like another so this hoss can see out which he seems to find settling and it has a tack locker.

Is he really going notice the difference in head height from 2235 in EquiTrek to 2220 in an Ascot do you think? I’m hoping he’ll just learn not to stick his head in the air on his go-go-gadget neck?

We sold our Equi trek because of this issue. I think the square opening is the problem. They put their heads up and the line of the roof is right on their eyeline, and they think they can't get in. My youngster would load into anything else, but after the age of 3 wouldn't entertain the equi trek. My advice is to change the trailer. I think that you can get tack packs that fit on the outside front these days.

Oh the trailer had gone! Went about a week ago and I’m lucky to have on long-term loan a Cheval Liberte from a friend (a very good friend!) for me to see if he’s fine with it and he is. Chevals are nearly £8k new and the second hand ones are really pricey. I was wondering if I could get away with buying a Bateson Ascot new and manage with 2220mm internal headroom - 15mm surely isn’t going to make a massive difference as he can’t go everywhere all the time with his poll stuck to the ceiling, surely?! ?

I’d buy an Ifor if I really had to (nickable and therefore pricey to insure puts me off) but despise the tack pack things that’s stick to the doors and I don’t know if any other decent trailers that I could get tack on or in the trailer?
