we want to eventually get a trailer to take ponio to shows. As we intend on keeping him for a good few years yet, we were thinking on only needing a small trailer (he's a shetland). We don't want to get a 4x4 for towing with, we already have access to a freelander, but it's my fathers and he's not too happy about using it for towing with! (plus he uses it for work, so not practical if he's working)
Would we be able to get a small trailer for a shetland (who weighs 265) and tow it with a family car? perhaps an estate?
can anyone recommend where we might get a small pony trailer from? and what sort of car we should be looking at?

Thanks.

Not sure about a pony trailer, but mine is small and light (610 kg). Its a Bateson Derby 44, and we used to tow Chex with an estate car, wasn't ideal but then he's heavier than your little one.

His old owner used to transport him in a sheep trailer, but he was terrified of it, and started refusing to load... i think it was all the rattling that scared him, so I'd rather go for something a bit more solid and made for ponies.

I've seen people who've converted sheep trailers especially for shetlands, and added little partitions, and they're ideal. If only ours wasnt such a wuss!
