Hi,

My trainer rides my horse for me once/twice a week and is riding her for a week or two soon.

Something I've never thought about is is there any insurance I can put in place if, for example, (and heaven forbid!) my trainer was injured while riding my horse?

I know she has her own insurance, but I was thinking more from my perspective.

Thanks in advance

I may be wrong too but I think with my horse insurance pict my liability covers me for someone making a claim for compensation following some kind of accident where my horse has caused damage or injury. Your trainer would have to make a claim for that and if successful a lump sum of some description paid but it is not a immediate release of money. If the trainer is doing it as a business they should have their own insurance that kicks in immediately providing them a weekly sum to live on. Kind of like critical illness insurance but kicks in after a week of being off work, this is what my husband has and I have one that kicks in after 3 months as that is when my stat sick pay runs out

I don't think that public liability would cover this. If the trainer fell off and the horse rushed out and caused damage - that would be covered, but not a rider on your horse. The trainer should have their own insurance, but maybe a good idea to ask.

as a riding instructor I would have thought they have their own insurance so worth checking with them just to be clear. They may be a BHS gold member which I think covers them for riding other horses? (dont quote me on this!!)
