I have the opportunity to join forces with an NLP and Hypnotherapy person, im just wondering if you where to train with someone & they recommended NLP to you.

What would your thoughts be?

Im going to be trying the NLP out for myself first before i recommend it to anyone, but im just trying to get a feel for who would use it & would it offend anyone to offer it to clients?

I teach quite a few nervous riders (nothing wrong with nervs) & my personal feeling is that it may be a benifit to be able to offer to them.

I have done a diploma in NLP - and I find it really interesting training with people who have a NLP background. Its about being able to break down the fears and visualise things positively.

Its also about planning goals and aims far better and making them achievable rather than just something to get out of the way and feel no satisfaction about. I have found it tremendously helpful in my riding. I do not do enough teaching to know about that side but I have used it in my regular job with students.

I think it's great to know your trainer has various tools to call on at different times. You wouldn't be using NLP techniques all the time, but would try them in certain situations especially around confidence and so on. I like my trainers to be open with me in a 'let's try this' kind of way, and that's what I try to do when developing people in my day job: if I think trying a particular technique or way of thinking might work I just frame it like that - it's a technique, we'll try it, and if it doesn't work then I'll have another one ready to suggest for next time... rather than them thinking they couldn't make it work, or my 'teaching' doesn't work, etc... If you know what I mean.

I'd certainly welcome it as one of the options when tackling a problem, provided it didn't feel too 'intrusive' into the normal teaching, so it'd be a thumbs up from me.
