Have decided to invest in a course of lessons with my excellent SJ trainer as we always end on a good note, but would like to be able to continue from where we finished the next day rather than one or two weeks later. Have 2 options, she can stay there for 5 days livery at £25 per day + the lessons enabling me to still work, I am a sales rep commission based, so could pop in while driving about. Or, as I have 6 days holiday left I could take her daily, this is quite time consuming, the whole round trip including lesson takes about 3 1/2 hours & costs about £10 in diesel, this would mean that I wouldn't call on any customers, but could process any orders that came by phone. I will lose my holiday if I don't take it by January, but I can't decide if paying for the livery will end up more expensive in the long run, & also she wouldn't have as much turnout & its quite expensive if she's going to stress about being in a new yard with less turnout. What do you all think???

depends entirely on the horse, if you think being at a new place will stress her then its going toundo the good work your putting in - hence the holiday and taking her yourself would be more beneficial - if more time consuming etc

I would take her it sounds like your time is worth a lot to you. Also if she is working hard limited turnout is not going to hurt for a short period of time.

I would put her at livery at the trainer's yard for the course of the training. It would mean a lot of travelling and stress for both you and the horse if you went daily.

I've just had my horse at a yard for training. He went from being out 24/7 to going out for about 3 hours a day. As there was so much going on he has coped brilliantly and I have to say I made the right decision in sending him there. You can always take your hols when she comes back to spend some quality time riding, or take an extra day here and there before Xmas to visit your trainer....

Thanks jumpthemoon, that sounds like a plan then, I'm sure she will be fine, just a bit worried that she might mess about in a new place & all that, then what a HUGE waste of money it would be, but I'm sure you're right, & she'll be pretty busy. I think it will be exhausting for us both travelling across each day. Getting excited now, so suppose I'd better talk to him about it tomorrow when we go for a lesson then!! Might even be able to showjump properly at the end of a weeks lessons, if not there's probably no hope...
