I suspect that the Spangle is going to want to nick retrieves off the others, seeing how she reacted to Scout turning up in the garden with his Kong earlier.
This is a ‘no you can’t come shooting’ level sin so it needs to be stopped. I will ask when we go to meet the trainer on the 24th and she will be trained alone for now anyway, but any ideas?
Pen has been known to do it but only to Tawny, it’s annoying enough but at least she doesn’t go up to other people’s dogs. (Spangle might not either).

‘Not yours‘ is a command all of ours knew when we had 3 loose adults taking turns to retrieve. No idea how helpful that is for your situation. We are not gun dog trained, we just started them with a hand out to stop them all going.

So is she just trying to steal of the puppy, or will she steal off older dogs? Freya will steal off Toast at home but she wouldn't dream of doing anything like that in a training situation. She sits and honours other dogs at all times when training.

Today was her first dummy retrieve so I’ve not done anything in company yet, we have a lot of basics to work on.
So I will see if she tries to take something off Tawny, now that she’s retired she’s my stooge dog, poor thing. Will try to get a better stop whistle first, it all helps.

ETA stop is amazing in the garden but while actively looking for something it rather disappeared ?

There are some fab springers in my new training groups. A young bitch in the young dog group with Freya and her mare mature brother (called Brian) in the older dog group with Toast (I haven't been brave enough to take Beans, he's pretty much retired) , Their owner trials spaniels, I'm watching and learning. It's a pleasure to watch them. When we do walked up/heel work they hunt out infront, quartering beautifully, their retrieves are always marked by shot (even their blinds) to replicate real life. (This is a new group that I've found, it's fab, and people bring cake to share if they have a special occasion, like a win/place in a working test or a birthday which seems to happen quite often! I'll need to up my baking before my birthday, some weeks it's more bakeoff than gundog training!)

Place boards, place boards, place boards for mugging!

Also, nip the lack of stop while out and about in the bud now. Do it as a positive stop though so pip stop while shes sat up then send for retrieve, if working on hunt whistle toss a ball into cover right behind her with her sat up, back away, pip stop and then hunt command. So stop is seen as a precursor to something good.

The stop I blow the whistle and chuck the ball into their mouth as soon as they look at me. She is just a bit of a work in progress when she’s on a mission. We are working on it.
Will pm you about place boards. ?

That works for retrievers, if you want to hunt her it makes them run around head up eyeballing you anticipating the stop a lot of the time. For what you want her to do it will be spot on though :)

My coordination isn’t very good if I have to do too much at once. I’ll try what you say!
