Bella is most definitely MY horse. While her behavior isn't perfect, it's much better for me than it is for anyone else. Which is unacceptable to me. I love the fact that she's bonded to me but I don't approve of her misbehaving for others.

But what do you do to teach a horse that they have to mind their manners for other people? My daughter hates handling her because she feels like all she ever does is correct her. She doesn't let her get away with things but it's a constant schooling session. Mostly what I'm talking about are ground manners - being pushy, invading space, pulling on the lead. She doesn't do any of that with me.

Do you suppose it's something that will come with age? She's 5 now. I've never had such a one-person horse (except an abuse case which is different) so I'm mystified.

Well Lady is 19 and is a one-person horse, but only when ridden, she HATES other people riding her and seems to completely lose control of her body and panics, but is as calm as anything when im riding her :)
shes fine on the ground though.
maybe your horse will grow out of it, after all theyre only 5 :)

Mine's fine with anyone to handle, he's a big old gent which he's found results in lots of carrots and treats from the kids generally! :) Though ridden, whilst he's fine with anyone on him and will walk/trot/canter/jump etc, but not many other than me get a proper 'tune' out of him to get him working in an outline, direct trans, changes, etc throughout. Just learning his/my buttons I like in a horse really!
I don't like a horse you have to kick and pull round, so generally the less you do on him the better, more 'think' it and finer aids rather than obvious ones. You kick him and he's just like 'Ergh. Fine. Mummy I'll put up with this but only for you!' and goes into riding school plod. Bless him ;)
