I've just got a 3 1/2yr old horse. he is out of a very nice tb mare by Jumbo, he seems very chilled at the moment (had him 6 days) but i was just wondering if they are known for any particular characteristics? He is for eventing.

Mine is by Free Spirit, who is a Jumbo horse, she is really chilled and very bold. My vet does a bit with Free Spirit too and said he is a really nice stallion to handle.

Hope that helps a bit

Our mare is in foal to Jigilo, son of Jumbo. My daughter worked for an eventer who had two Jumbo horses and she loved them, looks and temperament. That is why we went for Jigilo, better suited to our mare conformation wise than his dad but hopefully with the same temperament. Mare has a good attitude too(most of the time!) so fingers crossed.

We have had a Free Spirit and a Jigilo. The Free Spirt was a complete nutter and very nervous but pushed her luck as well. She was out of a TB mare who was in Int eventer and had bred a int eventer by Jumbo, however she could get a bit of temperement on her stock so probably not FS fault.

The Jigilo is out of a mare by Espiritu who is from a 'hot' family. The Jigilo is the most laid back and easy filly, def better temp than her ID half brother. A friend of mine had a Jigilo out of a 'typical chestnut mare' and that was a sweetie as well.

Just my own experience of the two sires, but I would go for Jigilo over FS every time.

I have a Jumbo mare.
She's very laid back, very lazy on the flat, very bold cross country. Has a really comical personality in the stable - loves people.

Laid back but stubborn!! Generally very trainable though, and if they understand they pick up things very quickly

My 4yo (profile pic) is out of a Jumbo Mare (Jumbo x Grafham Society) and has Just Zulu as GS on Sire side. He is the most lovliest horse I have had an known. Very honest and soooo easy to handle, bit lazy on the flat, enormous jump - only time he has gone hyper is when he see cows, and when he was being backed (all very scary) nothing silly - just grows another 2 hands. I definatly think he has the temperment traits and very sound conformation! Heard the odd comment about them having fussy mouths - although I've not experienced this.
