Trakehner Stallions and Thoroughbred Mares

Hello everyone,
I have two American Jockey Club Registered Thoroughbred mares. I'm looking to breed them both. My partner and I have been leaning towards Trakehner. I'm interested in learning about which stallions have the best conception rate from frozen semen, and I am very open to hearing about stallions known to cross well with Thoroughbreds. This breeding is not the end all, it is a long term project. My partner and I are thinking from a dressage point of view.

Some of the stallions I've been looking at are: Buddenbrock, Connery, Gribaldi, Michelangelo, Summertime, (Just to name a few.)
I've also been watching the Thoroughbred stallions Lauries Crusador xx, (But I think his semen is unavailable now?) and Stravinsky xx.

About the Mares:
The first is a 15.3 Hands, grey, and has three fluid gaits with a lot of suspension and balance. She is a very forward thinking horse and has turned out to be the more interesting one to ride. She has recently also shown us that she is a natural over fences. For this little mare we are searching for a stallion that throws a lot of neck and movement.

Her half sister, is the prettier type of the two mares. She is also grey and 16.2 hands. This mare has less balance but super comfortable gaits, with a powerful walk, and amazing bone. For this mare we are looking for a stallion that throws good hind-ends, and movement in their foals.

I would have no qualms about using a Trakehner on my TB mare, one of my best mares has a lot of TB and Trakehner blood. She is going to Gribaldi next April.
 
You can have full TB mares graded into the Trakehner studbook, so the offspring will be 'pure Trakehner'.
Not too sure how worthwhile this is as long as the breeding is recorded in any case, but may ensure to future buyers the dam was quality.
 
Yes Thoroughbred mares will be eligible for grading and it is definatly worth doing as the foals will then receive pink papers and will be branded Trakehner.

Of the stallions you mention Connery I love as I used to have his half sister. He tends to produce very elegant typey horses, who are very light footed movers. You can tend to spot his stock quite easily. Lighter framed types too. There are a number of sons that are even better movers than dad, Editorial and Imperio spring to mind.
We have a mare here due to Connery but we used chilled not frozen. Stud were excellent to deal with.

Summertime is a much bigger horse, height and frame wise. I have seen quite a few of his under saddle that really appeal with their attitude and lovely big ears

. Frozen is probably the only option with him as stud is not an Eu approved centre. I think he would suit a TB mare as most of his stock are bigger and more robust.

Michelangelo appears time and time again in pedigrees of some top performers. Obviously he is half TB himself. I love to see his son Kennedy in a pedigree, one of my favourites. He gives good type and again good ridability.

Gribaldi is obviously stallion of the moment but I would dig more as to the quality of his frozen as I have heard its not brilliant (but still works)
 
Hello there! Brilliant that you are leaning towards the fabulous trakehner, (my lifetime spent with them!) Have you thought about the Distelzar line horses? Donauzauber, Distalgold etc? Klosterhof Medingen stand two of these? Caprimond & Hohenstein might also suit. Of course Gribaldi is on everyones lips right now & does have more success stories than just Totilas, but - foals will be ten a penny by him soon, & its drops their worth.

For TB mares, Id look to the older lines, with more substance rather than more modern stallions, just a thought!
