Hi guys, I'm still thinking about what to put my mare to nxt year (15.3hh WB X TB X ID,int eventer by Grannex) Need to add a bit of , size, scope and speed to her (looking to event baby eventully!). I've been looking at T.B and Selle Francais stalions mainly (JaguerMail my fav so far!) But someone suggested I consider a Trakehner stallion. But I don't know alot about this breed, but get the impression that they are a lighter type of warmblood?! Do they have t.b in them? Anything suitable out there for my mare

Trakehners are fantastic horses. As a general rule of thumb they are a lighter, more TB type of warmblood, often used by other warmblood books to refine their stock.

I can strongly recommend a Trakehner stallion based in the UK called Tycoon, who should add size and scope to your mare. He has been a very successful producer of mares especially, with his daughters doing brilliantly in Germany, including the supremely talented eventing mare Amazing Grace TSF. Tycoon will also add a lot of movement even though he comes form mainly jumoing bloodlines. He stands at Bluewood Stud www.trakehners.co.uk

There is also a very smart smaller Grade A stallion called Sir Graditz in the UK, who is jumping on the international circuit. He didnt stand at public stud this year but might be worth looking into.

Of course Fleetwater Opposition is a superb sire of eventers and an eventing gold medallist himself. They are real athletes but I wouldnt breed him to a sharp mare. His stock are ferraris so if you want a Volvo dont use him

For general info on Trakeheners the very best site is www.trakehners-international.com
Lots of info on top Trakehners in dressage, show jumping and eventing.

I think the Trakehners are fantastic horses for eventing. Of course there are many different types within the breed but generally they tend to have super attitudes, and are very athletic and brave, and tough.

Volatis I was wondering if you know much about Pascal's progeny and what they are like?

Also back them for eventing, much lighter than other warmbloods, seem to have that TB enthusiasm for work too, plenty of movement and jump. They can be sharp though, but I like a horse that way, plenty of brain in them, great thinkers!

Try Arentino, looked after him for a while, fab temp, movement and breeds some real event types as well as dressagey types, they all move, all have great temps and are easy to do, correct limbs e.t.c

Not sure if his son is standing at public stud but Horatio is by Arentino and out of a mare by the eventing stallion Pascal. Alot of Tino's relatives are eventing successfully out in Germany.

Doffthederby, dont know many pascal's first hand but they do have a good rep for sane and sensible attitudes.

Hannibal is a lovely sire with a great track record but wouldnt think of him to add size particuarly.

KateD - if you can, try and come to the College Equestrian Centre on 8/9th September. It is the annual Trakehner breed show and grading so you will see plenty of British bred Trakehner stock there, pure and part breds. Also all the stallion owners will be there.

If you dont mind going AI route another stallion I love with fabulous jumping lines is Axis http://www.hengststation-geling.de/english/stallions_axis.html
He also belongs to Bluewood Stud and is being trained for a dressage career but his offspring really jump. We (well my boss) have a 2yo filly by him who won the loose jumping at East of England this year, but she is also a stunning filly (just went Youngstock Supreme Champ plus Hack Champion at Ponies UK). Axis will add real jumping ability as well as very beautiful foals!

Or Grafenstolz TSF , again his semen is easy to get shipped over, a real up and coming Olympic standard eventer. http://www.gestuet-birkhof.com/hengste/grafenstolz.php
Sire is Grand Prix dressage. He jumps and moves incredibly well, young and up and coming sire. Should add some size, will add great paces and jump.

I would also watch what mare you used him on, he was only graded on competition results, not conformation, feet aren't great either.

Remember seeing him when we stayed at Dags and he is a nice enough horse!

Oh and Windfall, if you can get hold of his semen. He's an olympic eventer and pan am gold medalist. They have a website if you google him. I had a brother (by Habicht) who would fly 5'3 and had super paces.

Or Holme Park Legend, not sure whether he stands publicly but I think thats one of the smartest stallions I've seen in a while, http://www.trakehner.co.uk/ look at video clips.

Prokofiev also breeds light types!
