Just one more thing whilst I remember! Don't discount the importance of healthy frogs. Footiness is not just caused by a thin sole but can be caused by thrush. Treat any sign of this quickly, I soak in sterilising fluid but there are quite a few alternatives. Hope this helps!

So what's in Advance Complete Paddy?

Whatever is listed as being in it? Or something else? How do you know?
.

how do you know that with any product? you don't.

The only thing you can judge it by is if it works. Does it produce quality feet. (and the rest of the horse) Yes it does. Last year I left a couple without it. Thought it probably wasn't necessary. There was a difference so they went back onto it.
You can make the argument that if equimins made a mistake with one product they could have done with another. You could make the same argument with any firm's products. Any firm could be playing any sort of games with what goes into their products. We have absolutely no idea. So I simply work on the basis of "does a product work"

I remember from the oil thread people saying they were never going to use AC ever again. Those same people had previously been praising AC for the results they were achieving.

I don't buy again from a company that has been

- proven to be wrong about a critically important product and

- dismissed concerns of customers who queried it and

- appeared not to know the importance of the absolutely crucial difference between the natural and man made version of a product

unless they are the only supplier and I can't do without.

There are horses which have suffered, had to be retired and quite possibly been put to sleep because this product was only half as effective as it should have been.

The point is that it is only "one of" a number of good barefoot supplements and it is sold by a company that did not know what it was selling when it was absolutely crucial to sick horses that they get the natural form of the product and not the manmade one.

With other products available, I'm afraid no company that does that and responds the way they did when it was found out gets a second chance with me.

There is also hidden iron in all of the barefoot supplements except for Forage Plus and if you have high iron already like many places do then that's bad news.

You are right about the hidden iron. I thought the one on the chart with the highest iron was Pro Earth. It's not one I would use as I did try it and it didn't suit ours as well as AC.

Of course there are other barefoot supplements the original question was asking if there was something that produced faster growth. I merely answered that question.

entirely up to either of us who we buy from. Having spoken to them at length about it I am prepared to accept that a mistake was made.
Re your final para do you have actual horses and numbers or is this just based on possibility. I would suggest that mine was seriously ill or at least that was the general impression I got from a horse lying collapsed on the ground tied up. I found their product extremely effective. Within days I was having very noticeable results.

On a more general note I saw comments elsewhere (when I studied this when it first came up) as to whether giving vit E as a powder is more or less effective than in an oil form. I don't have the answer but it is something I wonder about. Anyway it makes little difference. I am well impressed with the oil and recently ordered another 5 litres.

As I have said earlier I buy based on what products work not on an "internet" campaign.

Keira, do I vaguely remember Prince has cushings or is that just my imagination? if so the horse that I couldn't get foot growth on and for which AC worked also had cushings.

I recently changed from Equimins Advance to Formula4feet, his feet have now been growing like crazy :D and Buzz is more enthusiastic about eating the formula4feet than the Equimins. That's all I have to add really!

When I took my mare barefoot all I did was walk her in hand over various surfaces to get her used to the feel of them for a week or so before I started riding again. I didn't think to change her diet or feed supplements. She now has what my farrier refers to as text book ridden barefoot hooves. The only change I have made in her care post shoes is to ensure that I check the white lines for tiny stones everyday and to dig out any I do find

I think it is great that you are giving Barefoot a go. I do feel that the health benefits of barefoot and the advances in boot technology is shaping the future. When I first took my ponies barefoot I realised that previously I had only been checking the state of their shoes, i.e. how worn the shoes were, and how they were being worn down, and not the state of their feet!
People are right in saying that it is what your horse that has the biggest impact on how well they cope without shoes, and it has taken me a few years to get it right. In the first few years I didn't know enough and I found that their ability to cope was really season dependent, and I used to get frustrated that just when i wanted to up their exercise in spring, they showed signs of being footy. Now, I can manage them better and they are about the same all year round. I do own boots (Easy Boot Glove backcountry) but only need them when I am either doing an unknown route ride (like an EGB ride) or a known stony ride. Best of luck! I am sure that you won't regret it
