Transport company complaint

Hi, newbie on this forum to bare with me.

I found a transport company in a local horse magazine because I needed to transport a horse from Essex to Surrey, about an hours journey.

I rang the number and spoke to a nice lady who told me to put £40 into her account as a deposit and I could pay the rest in cash, totalling £95 for the journey including VAT and fuel.

This I was happy with.

On the morning the horse was being collected, I recieved a phone call saying she would be roughly 45 minutes late and during the phone call she told me her horse would be on the lorry too, "because she was going to a show".

I received no prior warning about her horse being on the box aswell. It is just a small 2 horse lorry. I was buying the horse I was collecting that day and luckily it just so happened she is fine travelling with company.

BUT... What if she wasnt fine with another strange horse being right next to her in the lorry? I had paid £95 for the company to drive my horse from A to B and I received no prior warning that another horse would be on board.

Perhaps she should of mentioned it to see if you still wanted to go ahead but if she did actually get your horse from A to B and everything was fine I wouldn't worry about it now.
 
I don't think there's much you can do. It's not something I've ever used, but I was under the impression that professional transporters travelling around the country travel multiple horses at once...it wouldn't be economical to travel only one at a time.
 
I wouldnt have been impressed either, its nerve wracking enough picking up a new horse, not knowing if they are ok travelling in the first place, never mind with another horse. :rolleyes:

Altho if she usually travel other horses as well, I would have expected to be told this in time to say no thank you I'll use someone else!
 
I would ask for a discount on the bill since altho it is normal for large Gillies type transporters to take multiple horses, the cost is cheaper for the client because of it.

I would say an hours trip should be about £60-70 as a shared load - the rate charged sounds more like a sole load charge.

Difficult to actually pursue it tho if not clarified beforehand tho unless she coughs up.
