What part of Ireland? And what budget?I have just had a quote for £250 from Wexford to the South East. I thought it was very reasonable.

Cost me £200 from Ireland to cheshire. It's cheaper than you imagine, just do your research on the transporters

All the best with finding a transporter. It all sounds quite exciting.

I just looked at the wrong time, Cobbytype. : )

Would love to hear how it all pans out. I might follow in your shoes, but need a few more pennies first. Some beautiful cobs on there lately *sigh* ... ooh and there was a lovely little Connemara a few days back - not my type (bit too quick for me - more a teenager's horse I think), but wow it was a lovely little horse.

Make sure it goes in to quarantine, they don't care a damn about disease.

I can assure you that all the horse people I know here are very concerned about disease and horse welfare.

Ozpoz I think FionnWinnie may have shipped from here to Scotland, she might be worth asking. I know it's €250 to central England but then goes up by a fair bit, depending how much further away you are. Good luck, sounds exciting!

Replied to your pm but Gillies would be your best bet I think. They do this all the time. What are you buying? Was about 250 to bring my mare over (it was sort of included in the price but I had to pay an extra £50 for Scotland).

What a stupid, sweeping statement. The only experience I have had with strangles came from a UK dealer who sent two horses to Ireland knowing they were infected. He was a very well known and "respected" dealer who didn't seem to give a damn about disease. Should I now say the English don't give a damn about disease as a whole? Or chalk it up to a bad experience which would be far more sensible? Most horse people, no matter what country they are in tend to take a responsible attitude towards controlling the spread of diseases in horses, for the sake of their reputation and livelihood.

Regarding transport, I use George Mullins for everything, moving horses from Essex to Ireland was about 300 Euro plus Vat per horse. If you have a VAT number you don't pay it. Worth giving them a call, they are very helpful.
