Transport or go myself

I am having a real dilemma. New mare is a 512 mile round trip. Initially I intended to hire a trailer and get her myself but the local hire place doesn't hire them now.

I can either take my own (cattle)trailer, but concerned she may not load in it.

Borrow a friend's trailer, but concerned about "never a borrower or a lender be".

Get a transporter to bring her.

Hire a horse van. She has only been in a trailer.

I have put them in order of expense. I'm not so bothered about the expense and I kind of feel spending the amount I am and everything I should go myself. The lazy side of me is thinking I don't want another massive road trip.

Been going around in circles for a few days...
 
Personally I would pay a professional. You can then relax and look forward to her arriving home.

Good luck with the new mare and looking forward to the many photos.
 
I'd go for Gillies, they aren't the cheapest but a few folk at my yard have used them and loved them. Gillies helped a friend deal with a rather tricky situation and they did so with complete professionalism and genuine concern for the horse.

The other advantage is you can be doing all the nice stuff when they are enroute, like getting a wee bed ready for her, and making her spot 'just so', well that's what I would be doing anyway :)
 
I am a professional lol. I transport animals as a large part of my job. But I take your point.

I just have this nagging feeling I want to be there to see her loaded etc. I don't know why because I have used this transporter before and he is great so it's not him that's making me feel like this. I don't what's wrong with me :confused:

I think if I could find a horse trailer to hire I'd go for that but there doesn't seem to be anyone locally now. Anyone know somewhere in Perthshire or Fife?
 
I'd get a transporter to do it for sure. Professionals lorries are big, air suspended and the drivers are brilliant. A shared load will prob cost less than you could do it for anyway, plus you don't have the worry, she'll just turn up cool as a cucumber.

I have my own lorry but still paid a transporter when I moved my three from Hants to Cornwall last year. It cost me £500 for the three, whereas I'd have had to make 3 trips with my 2 horse van (one with smaller two together, one with big horse, one with all my yard stuff).
