Was chatting at the weekend to some of the liveries at my yard and we were all saying about how expensive it is now to run a 4WD or have a lorry yet we are frustrated as where we are there's hardly anywhere that we can hack to for shows, XC, clinics etc.
It was suggested that maybe we could club together and buy some sort of transport either a small lorry or a cheap(er) 4WD and trailer. Just wondered if anyone else does this and if so how they work out, how it's paid for.
We didn't go into it in much detail but I have been thinking that obviously the tax and Mot and servicing costs would have to be shared then don't know how the insurance would work and I suppose any sort of damage would have to be paid for by the person using the transport on that day and there would have to be a booking system, then if someone leaves the yard and had paid towards the initial purchase would they have to be bought out? and then the more I think about it the more complicated it gets!
I know that you can hire transport but often that would be for a whole day and we are thinking of going to clinics that would be for an hour or so and not too far away, just not hacking distance or on hackable roads, or to the odd show where maybe you want to do one or two classes but not spend all day there. Also someone might want to go on their own, especially those that do shifts so often have days off when there's no one else about to share the costs of a box hire. So the flexibility of own transport would be great. Anyway just wondering if anyone else does a similar thing and how it works with you!!
Cheers!
