Hello, I have just been to see a horse which i am getting on a trial period before i buy. I live in Suffolk and the horse is in Linconshire. She is 5 and i am hoping to collect her on Sunday. However i am really worried about the journey can anyone give me advice on transporting a horse? She has been in a box but never been transported. Am i worrying over nothing?
Thanks

Ask them to get her out a few times so that she gets the idea.

Or better still - get them to deliver her full stop.

If she's never been transported before I think you are asking quite alot to transport her that distance for the first trip. You will be travelling somewhere around 140 miles? which will probably take 3-4 hours. Ideally the current owners should take her out a few times, just short didtances to start with to see how she travels.

If you have to collect her on Sunday then make sure she's well booted up, put a poll guard on her to protect her head should she rear in the box. Take plenty of hay to to keep her busy & take a container of water & bucket for her to drink, assuming she'll load to start with.

Good luck on the journey

I was worried about taking my youngster to Newmarket a few months ago as he had only ever traveled in a trailer when he was six months old it was one hell of a way over 100 miles and i was really worried. But he was fine. he got a bit hot during the journey but he coped really well. We stopped a few times just to reasure him.
To be honest i didnt boot him up as he had never worn travel boots before and that wouldve been an ordeal in itself, he was used to being bandaged and wearing sports boots, so he just travelled in the sports boots and he was fine.
You'll probably find that you are worrying about nothing, like i did

Good luck hope every thing goes ok

Hello,
Thanks for all your advice. She traveled really well and didnt sweat up too much. I bandaged her up really well. She was so calm loading and offloading.!
Thankyou
