One of my horse's is off to his new home in Ireland so can you help with the following please;

How much can I expect to pay one-way from the East Anglia area to the Tipperary area in Ireland?

What documentation will my horse need for the journey?

Who is a good company to use ?

Will the transporter also take his tack/rugs etc with him ?

Is it worth doing the journey myself in our lorry - or is it a complete nightmare !?

Thanks in advance

I used Ken Gamble and he was fantastic and I couldn't recommend him more but a 'luxury' single horse trip over or back (as mine was) is going to be expensive whether it is one way or not you have to pay both ways unless they are coming back with a horse or a load and this can be hard to plan and you would have to fit in with the transporter. It really is loads of money if you want them to travel alone.

The prices vary so much and if you're prepared for your horse to travel in a big load then it is substantially cheaper. You can google Ken and horse transporters ireland.

My horse traveled with his passport and Ken provided all the rugs and my friend bandaged him up before he was sent over. It is worth bearing in mind it is a very very long trip with the shortest ferry being 4 hours. My horse traveled on the shortest ferry trip and it was still close to 16hour journey door to door.

I did contemplate the journey but it seemed a nightmare and i didn't have 2 days to play with.

I've had horses over from England to Co. Cork and use Ballinrobe horse transport. Excellent staff and very comfortable and clean lorries. They are not the cheapest company but you really do get what you pay for. Last time it was about £450 or so. Came on a shared load with racehorses. Only needed a passport. Emerald bloodstock are also good and have a theault which would be more cost effect if you didn't want to share.
