If anyone has any ideas on the cost of transporting hay, or indeed ideas of anyone who would do it I would be interested; I am trying to work out if it's worth shipping 1000+ hay bales with me 200+ miles when I move, as I won't have much time to sell it. Thanks

The first question is where does it have to be moved to. You are looking at about 3 loads . Do you have facilities to mechanicaly load the lorries and are the bales of a good regular shape with tight strings. All of the above factors will affect the costs.

Hmm. Bales would be good, well made ones. I don't have a tractor of my own anymore for loading. It will be going in a big livestock barn. Thanks.

The sensible thing would surely to do a deal with a fodder trader who will give you a quick answer and make all the arrangements. Sell yours locally and buy hay at your destination.

The only reason to take it with you would be if there were problems sourcing it at your new home.

Try the British Farming Forum? Someone will be interested in a 1,000 bales. I think there is also a national register for hay/straw/etc. but I am not sure how many use it.
