How much does a round bale of haylage weight approx? The ones that are about 5 foot high and round.

I'm looking for a way to transport a single bale at a time either by quad bike and trailer or bale spike thing attached to a tow bar or my third option is to buy one of the pickup 4x4s so there is space in the back for one.

What methods do other people use?

Ok..... I have rolled one into the back of a ford transit with room to have another and space to get in down the side, I have had two in my IW505 and they weighed in the region of about 500Kg The chap that delivers them to the yard uses a pickup and a trailer but these bales are bigger.

How far have you got to travel with it and how often?
A quad bike and trailer or bale spike are all well and good for short distances but for safety reasons could be a nightmare on long trips.
Pick-up is normaly best method, get 1 on the back no prob and then just hitch the trailer up to transport more.
As said above as well, unloading, saying that 5ft bales are pritty easy to roll and shift about (if not going far)

Thanks for the replies, Its just to go down a muddy track to put bales out for the horses so not along public roads or anything. I think a quad and spike might be best as I'm not sure how I would get a bale on to a pickup but getting it off would be fine.
